Letter from the CEO

May 25, 2023

What an extraordinary time we are living through, as we undergo a global transition in how we live and work! The recent pandemic and healthcare crisis require remarkable efforts from people, communities, organizations and governments to safeguard our personal and collective health. As individuals, we naturally focus on the health and safety of our friends, family and loved ones in times of crises, but I am struck how an overwhelming feeling of community is all around us; we now worry on a much deeper level about those we know and interact with. Our world has never felt smaller. Our problems feel larger, but together we are strong and resilient.

At AffirmedRx, we have spent a lot of time over the past couple of weeks and months focusing on how we can impact healthcare for the better. I would like to provide an update on what we’re doing to help positively impact pharmacy benefit management.

Our organization was founded on the mission to improve healthcare by bringing clarity, integrity and trust to pharmacy benefit management through a clinically focused, patient-centric industry. We feel honored to have earned the trust of many and feel it is our duty to repay it in these challenging times by giving back. We have solutions that can help, so we are going to help.

One of our priorities is education and improved transparency. As I was subpoenaed to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee on May 23rd, I focused on the AffirmedRx mission and vision statements for my testimony.

I spoke at the House Oversight Committee meeting on PBMs on the 23rd in an effort to help move this industry in a different direction. Changes need to be made and we want to work on changing this together. Currently, there is little to no transparency in pharmacy benefits. The RFP process that also supports this entire industry is flawed by only looking at discounts and per claim rebates that are widely inaccurate after poor contract language is put in place.  We are committed to focusing on simplicity and dollars, versus complexity and discounts, to drive down the cost of healthcare while improving patient outcomes and experiences. We believe that if we can all work toward a common goal, we can help institute positive changes that will encourage better health outcomes for years to come.

AffirmedRx, and I personally, commit to:

  • Provide insight into how we are addressing the PBM situation as a business
  • Educate clients, consultants and partners to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the problems in today’s PBM industry and provide a dedicated action plan for improvement
  • Publish educational materials about the PBM industry as a whole
  • Engage in additional policy thought leadership and provide potential positive solutions

As new developments arise, and in response to questions we may receive, we will be sure to share any/all updates we have at the appropriate time.

In the meantime, from all of us at AffirmedRx, stay healthy and be well.
